Coatings in Seattle
Horton Industrial provides only the highest standard of coating quality available. All of our coatings are applied strictly to the manufacturer recommendations, or based on the spec for the certain job. This is especially important in the marine industry because of electrolysis and the especially corrosive environment our coatings are subject to.
We are too familiar with the local companies that provide poor prep then slap on a coat of paint to cover it up. We often are called in to fix these situations, which usually results in starting completely over. Luckily, we know how to fix the mistakes of these other companies and provide proper application of coatings.
Horton Industrial has the best equipment for the job when it comes to marine sandblasting and coatings. Our air compressors range from 185 all the way up to 900 CFM depending on the size of the job. With this amount of air, we can get a ton of sandblasting accomplished in a much shorter amount of time compared to other companies. Our favorite machine in our fleet is our Vecloader 616. This is a 170 hp vacuum that will suck 6 to 8 tons of blast media per hour from 600 feet away. This machine is absolutely perfect for shipyard work.
Along with our air compressors and vacuum, we have all of the required dust collectors, blasting pots, paint sprayers, and hand tools required to provide the highest quality of coating work.
All coating manufacturers agree that sandblasting is a far superior method of paint prep than hand prep. Hand prep may seem to be cost-effective and cleaner than abrasive blasting, but any paint job that is applied over hand prep is always guaranteed to fail within a couple years. When surfaces are prepped correctly using abrasive blasting to achieve the correct mill profile, the coating will adhere properly and will last exponentially longer. Other than physical damage, properly prepped coatings should last up to 10 years with the current technology put into the materials.
If you are worried about the mess that abrasive blasting will create, well don’t worry. We use tarps and plastic to protect all equipment and use our industrial vacuum to suck all of the sand out of the ship before we even apply any coatings. After we are completely done with the painting process, all that is required is a decent pressure wash and you should be good to go.
We have been around the marine industry long enough to know that time is of the essence. When you contact Horton industrial we make it a priority to make sure we can get your paint project completed within the timeframe you have to work with. If needed, we can work with other contractors to complete an enormous job within an extremely tight deadline.
